UFC star Jared Gordon has been forced to spend almost £20,000 on tickets to his own fight at Madison Square Garden later this year.

The New Yorker will have an homecoming to remember at UFC 295 on the undercard of Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic in the historic venue when he faces Mark Madsen. But even with a fighters' discount was forced to pay an exorbitant amount for tickets in order to bring family and friends to the show.

Gordon, who comes from Queens, shared his receipt from buying 17 tickets with his fighter discount to Twitter, with the picture garnering almost 1million views in a day. His total came up to $21,869, which amounts to just under £18,000, with five tickets at $2,007, seven at $1,257 and five more at $607.

"These are discounted tickets I got through UFC for my fight at MSG for some family and friends," Gordon wrote in his tweet sharing the screenshot. "UFC has some loyal fans to be selling out an arena of close to 20,000 some odd seats at prices higher than these, I love you all!"

When fans noted that he had spent almost half of his purse on tickets, he responded: "Not close, plus if I couldn’t afford it would I do this?" The last time Gordon had a disclosed UFC purse was in August of last year when he earned $94,000, which was split into a 50/50 win bonus. He has since fought twice more, and is likely to now be earning over six figures with a win against Madsen.

How is that post headlines?"

In another tweet responding to a post noting the exorbitant price he had paid, Gordon added: "[What the f***] is this? Is MSG supposed to give tickets away to everyone that wants to come? Journalists suck sometimes…"
