Melinda Messenger detailed meeting her beloved husband-to-be while filming Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. The former glamour model quickly bonded with the Channel 4 show's medic, Dr Raj Joshi, and the pair are now engaged after he popped the questiong during a romantic trip to New Zealand.

The mum-of-three was married to Wayne Roberts for 14 years, but divorced him in 2012 and went on to enjoy other relationships. Her previous romance was with former Royal Marine Chris Harding, who she met on Celebrity First Dates, but that ended after eight months in 2019.

She says meeting Dr Raj was the best thing to come out of shooting Celeb SAS and explained exactly what happened when the two first set eyes on each other. "I never would have thought this would happen. I wasn’t even looking for it," she revealed.

Melinda told Bella Magazine: "I was single (I’ve been a single parent since my kids were little), and finally devoting myself to me. I realised I’d spent most of my life worrying about others. But that’s the amazing thing about life – things happen when you least expect it."

She explained they first met when Melinda finished filming, she said: "I had to go in and see him. He was asking me about my psychotherapy, we got chatting… he told me about this trek he was planning to do in Nepal – I told him I loved Nepal, and he invited me along. I went, we became friends, it developed and… yeah, here we are. They do say you often meet your partner at work, and this is my work, so…"

Now a practising psychotherapist, Melinda revealed her sons Morgan, Flynn, and daughter Evie were the ones behind her appearance on the popular Channel 4 programme. "They encouraged me to do it," she explained. "They were like, 'Mum it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity... you love being uncomfortable'."

She said that people usually think she's an "extrovert", but she's "not". Melinda admitted that before Celeb SAS she had "never really done any exercise". She said she'd "never been to the gym" but now realises how much she "loves physical exercise".

"Now I’m climbing mountains, I’ve joined a gym," she told the outlet. "It did get emotional in terms of the physical, mental, emotional demands of doing what we did, in the conditions we were in (we all got trench foot!)."

Melinda said she felt "vulnerable" when Kirsty, Leigh Porter of Hollyoaks, left. She said she "knew how important it was for her" and that she "just burst into tears", adding: "I got emotional for other people... it has changed me. It's made me less afraid.

"Whereas I can still feel fear, I’ll probably do that thing anyway now, it doesn't stop me. That’s always been my motto, to be honest. The worst that can happen is utter humiliation. I’ve been embarrassed a million times in life and survived that!"
