Jill Dando's brother begs for help to solve murder after agonising 24 years

Jill Dando's brother, Nigel, revealed to Lorraine Kelly that he hopes the Netflix documentary about his sister's death will encourage witnesses to come forward to help solve murder after 24 years.

ITV's Lorraine asked Nigel why he supported the making of the series, to which he explained: "There had been a similar documentary about four years previously, and the people who made that documentary said, ‘We've got so much detailed information, an hour doesn’t do it justice’ and so they’d taken the idea to Netflix. And, what this documentary does is in more depth, work out who Jill was, focusing on her life in Weston-super-Mare growing up, what turned her from a local school girl, a local newspaper reporter, into someone who was an absolute star at the time she was killed.

"It looks at the circumstances surrounding her murder, and then in exhaustive detail the efforts that the police made to try to bring her killer to justice. I just wanted to be involved in that, to play my part. Just to talk about Jill, who she was, what she meant to us as a family and also just to stress that we as a family have no problems with the way the police investigated her death."

He continued: "It was such a complex inquiry you wouldn't believe it and I know they've come into a lot of criticism, but I just wanted to play my part to say I think they've done all they can so far. But, anybody who is watching this documentary, who knows, maybe the killer themselves, it's never too late.

"It may just prick their conscience, it’s never too late to own up to what you've done. Or it may be that somebody watches it, who knows something who has that vital piece of information, go to the police and maybe the inquiry can be opened. We're 24 years down the road now Lorraine and I have have to be realistic, it's unlikely that that is going to happen but, unless you try you don't know."

The documentary goes over the old theories and dead ends the police investigated over the decades as well as interview footage of original suspect Barry George, who was subsequently cleared.
