One fan wrote: "I HATE to say this after tonight but I’m predicting Nikita being first out next week #Strictly." Another said: "My instant week 1 prediction is that Nikita will be first out #Strictly." And a third added: "The standard was unbelievable tonight. What a fantastic first show. I predict big things for Nigel, Angela and Ellie. I think the one at risk of going first will be Nikita (even though I think she seems lovely)."

Former EastEnders star Nigel Harman is fast becoming a fan favourite after his skillful performance landed him in the top spot on the leaderboard, after scoring an impressive 32 points. He was closely followed by celebrities such as Amanda Abbington, Layton Williams, Ellie Leach and Bobby Brazier were joint on 29.

Ex-Love Island star Zara McDermott scored 19 points, while comedian and presenter Less Dennis was placed at the bottom with only 16 points. However, one of the main talking points was presenter Angela Rippon's leg kick. As the oldest celebrity to ever grace the BBC dancefloor at the age of 78, her flexibility left viewers and judges speechless.

One viewer wrote: "Angela is 78 and she did that leg extension…….amazing." And another said: "Angela at 78 got her leg up this high....amazing. I'm younger and I can't get mine past hip level. Partnered with Kai Widdrington, Angela told fans that she had overcome a disastrous final rehearsal ahead of the live shows. In a video shown just before her performance she said that both herself and Kai had been given three chances to rehearse on set but the first one was a "disaster."

She added: “I’m going to be wearing a groove in the dining floor as I go over the routine on my own again and again.” But unlike some of her co-stars, Angela has a background in dance. She recently told the media ahead of the live shows: "I presented Come Dancing, I didn't dance in Come Dancing. But I'm very fortunate I've been around dancers for a very long time and doing Come Dancing, I was chairman of the English National Ballet for four years – I've been around dancers. So I know what's required and I did go to ballet class until I was about 17."
