Eerie images have emerged of an abandoned home where a family seemingly vanished from amid rumours of a young girl's murder. One snap taken in the spooky two-storey Lincolnshire property shows a cryptic handwritten letter by the family's daughter, Lucy, who locals believe still haunts the premises.

Another of the photographs, taken by Ben James, 29, shows the family's toothbrushes still in place by the bathroom sink, meanwhile. Ben, who travelled to the house from his native Cambridgeshire, was told by locals that a mum and dad and their young daughter lived there before suddenly disappearing - never to return to gather their belongings, which include all their clothes still hung in wardrobes.

With regards to the rumours, Ben was informed by nearby residents that the parents may have fled overseas afterwards, which could explain their sudden departure and why none of them were ever seen again. Ben said: "I was told that a girl used to live there with her parents.‌ One day the family disappeared and the neighbours didn’t know what happened."

He continued: "All the curtains were shut and parcels were left undelivered at the door.‌ It turns out the family simply vanished one day.‌ Rumours around the village are that the daughter could have been murdered by persons unknown.

Scared locals said they refuse to enter the house due to their belief the ghost of Lucy still resides there warning others to keep away. "The locals say that apparently Lucy haunts the house to keep people away and that’s why no one has ever gone in," Ben added. "The house is full of everything, even the clothes in the wardrobes, the family pictures are on the fireplace.

"There are toothbrushes still in the bathroom so it’s as if they just vanished one day and didn’t take anything with them. It’s a very chilling story but it's an amazing place." The mysterious letter by Lucy found in the home reads: "I hope you live a very long time… I promise I’ll always do what you say… so you’ll believe me and then I will be happy, so please."
