Stuck between the Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go? We're weighing up price, availability, specs and games on each device to help you decide which one is the best.

Yet another gaming handheld is hitting the market soon in the form of the Lenovo Legion Go, which is already on track to compete with the Asus ROG Ally. The shiny new Lenovo Legion Go features the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU, and as we found in our hands-on preview, the screen is gorgeous meaning it could knock the Asus ROG Ally out of the park.

We've not had the chance to fully benchmark the Lenovo Legion Go so we don't know how it'll perform just yet. However, based on the knowledge we do have, we're comparing both devices to see which one comes out on top in terms of price, availability, specs, and games.

Lenovo Legion Go vs Asus ROG Ally: price and availability

The Lenovo Legion Go price will come in at £699 / $699 / AU$1399, with different storage solutions clocking in at different costs. The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is currently available for £699 / $699 / AU$1,299 making it identical in price. It currently doesn't have options for more storage but the Asus ROG Ally standard edition will be released soon with a price point of £599 / $599 / AU$1,000 (AU pricing approx).

Since the Lenovo Legion Go isn't actually out yet, we have no idea what the availability of the device will be. Lenovo hasn't clarified how many units will be available for sale or if there will be limits on how many each customer can purchase as has been the case with some other popular gaming devices such as the PS5 and more recently the PlayStation Portal. The Asus ROG Ally, on the other hand, is currently available for purchase worldwide with no stock issues.

Although we haven't been able to test the performance of the Lenovo Legion Go, we have been able to benchmark the Asus ROG Ally in our review, and we've found that it is phenomenal. Considering the Lenovo Legion Go has the same APU, we're hoping it will match the Asus ROG Ally.

The main differentiator between these two devices comes down to the size, style and detachable controllers. The Asus ROG Ally is much more compact and lighter, making it better for on-the-go gaming, but this means it comes with a smaller screen. The Lenovo Legion Go on the other hand packs a bigger screen but is heavier, not to the point that you can't take it out with you - it's called the Go after all, but to the point you'll notice the weight in your bag.

Lenovo Legion Go vs Asus ROG Ally: games

Both the Lenovo Legion Go and Asus ROG Ally run on the same operating system, Windows 11, meaning that the games available on both are identical right now. You're able to play games on any storefront found on PC systems including but not limited to Epic Games, EA, Ubisoft, Xbox Game Pass as well as Steam.

However, since the Asus ROG Ally has been out for slightly longer, there are currently more titles that have been optimised for the handheld. But it's not unlikely that titles will very quickly be optimised for the Lenovo Legion Go after its release at the end of October which will hopefully level the playing field. The determining factor between these two devices won't be the game availability.

Lenovo Legion Go vs Asus ROG Ally: verdict

Overall, both of these devices are extremely similar. Which one you pick up will be down to what you need more out of a gaming handheld device, are you looking for something smaller and more compact? Then the Asus ROG Ally is the one for you. If you want something with a beautiful screen and you're not too phased about having a heavier device, then the Lenovo Legion Go is a great option.
