Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has insisted the club are in a "difficult position" after being accused of not putting in maximum effort.

The Red Devils have endured a tricky start to the season and currently languish as low as 13th in the Premier League table. The fixture list dictates that next up for United is a trip to Turf Moor to take on a Burnley side now managed by Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany.

The Clarets are without a win since their return to the top flight, but given his ties to the Etihad, Kompany would love nothing more than to get his first victory against City's fierce rivals United. From a Red Devils perspective, everyone at Old Trafford knows anything less than a win will only add to the low morale currently plaguing the club.

That includes Rashford, who has taken an optimistic approach and explained how just one win could be the moment the tide turns for United. The England international conceded he is not pleased with the state of affairs but insisted the players know what they must do.

"One good result, one good performance, can be a game-changer at this club," Rashford explained. "It's a difficult position and I'm not as happy as I'd like to be, but there's only one way to get back this happiness is to seek results."

"We know the effect that a victory can have on the team and then it's up to the players to show consistency. That's what we lacked. Last year, we were very consistent at home, but very irregular away."

"We're not scoring as many goals and conceding more. If we try to be a little more compact and help the players on the left or the right, then yes, the attackers may have less chances compared to last season, but if we are solid defensively, I think we can score against any team in the world."

Rashford's comments come just days after he, along with a number of his team-mates, were the subjects of a particularly scathing rant from ex-England ace Stuart Pearce who accused United's key players of 'jacking it in'.

Speaking after the 4-3 Champions League defeat away at Bayern Munich, Pearce blasted that Rashford was running backwards "like he has a fridge on his back" before taking aim at others.

"United are under the cosh because too many of their players have jacked it in. Rashford half running back and Casemiro half running back," Pearce explained.

"I'm not sure what Onana said when he has a rant at Maguire in the summer but now is the time to have a rant at the back line, not just the back line but the whole team.

"Too many players who have given up the ghost and that is alarming. United are so off the pace and they are lucky that Bayern have not been more clinical."

Rashford and co. will be out to prove Pearce wrong when they take to the field at Turf Moor. Another defeat would mean four straight losses in all competitions and pressure could begin to mount on manager Erik ten Hag.
