Lucy Watson is planning on bringing up her baby as a vegan after she “made a promise to the animals”.

The 32-year-old former Made in Chelsea star announced the exciting news that she and husband James Dunmore were expecting their first child with a touching post on Instagram. Sharing a photo of James cradling Lucy's baby bump, she wrote: “Our little miracle,” prompting a flood of supportive messages from fans and her former Made in Chelsea co-stars. Now, she’s opening up about her pregnancy with her Instagram followers, and in a Q&A on Friday, she revealed she would be raising her baby as vegan.

Passionate vegan Lucy has already released two bestselling cookbooks catered for plant-based diets, and she became vegetarian when she was a child after watching a lamb being slaughtered on her family farm. When asked by a fan if she was planning on maintaining her vegan diet throughout pregnancy, Lucy insisted she could stick to plant-based foods and keep her baby and body healthy.

“For me veganism is a promise I made to the animals, one I will never break. No matter what. In terms of my diet, I’ve made a conscious effort to eat less processed food and more whole foods. Also - protein. I made sure I got at least 60g a day, protein is the building blocks of life and essential to grow a baby,” Lucy explained. “Very achievable to get everything you need on a vegan diet, you just need to make a conscious effort, such as with any diet, to meet all your nutritional needs.”

She also added that she has been taking a vegan-friendly supplement, and told her fans that her baby would be brought up vegan, despite facing criticism over her choice. “I’ve had many people along this journey tell me you need to give up the vegan diet, it's stopping you getting pregnant, etc,” Lucy continued. “That is not the case, and for anyone dealing with the same doubts, I can assure you it is and can be a very healthy approach to pregnancy.”

“There are people who are crack addicts who get pregnant,” she fired. “Being vegan is not going to stop you. And yes, our baby will be vegan.” She then revealed she had been struggling with sickness and had to consult her doctor as she feared she wasn’t getting enough nutrients. “Now I’m back to eating how I ate pre-conception and so grateful to be able to!” she added.

Earlier this year, Lucy admitted she left Made in Chelsea in 2016 to save her relationship with James, as she feared being on the show would mark the end of their romance. “We were arguing more during that time and I was like, 'This is going to make us argue', and then I realised you can't really be in a happy relationship on that show. At that point, I was quite serious with James, so I was like, 'Actually I value this more',” she said during an interview on Jamie Laing's Private Parts podcast. Lucy and James announced their engagement in 2020, and tied the knot in Greece in September 2021.
