Lucy Watson admits pregnancy struggles after vowing 'not to complain'

Lucy Watson has opened up about first trimester struggles after vowing “not to complain” about her miracle pregnancy.

The former Made In Chelsea star announced she was pregnant with her first baby earlier this week. In a sweet Instagram post, husband James Dunmore cradles her blossoming belly as she wrote: “Our little miracle” in the caption.

But in a Q&A with fans, the 32-year-old revealed the couple had found getting pregnant harder than they thought and at one point Lucy admitted she “wasn’t sure if it would ever happen for us”. During the candid admission, Lucy revealed she struggled with sickness in the first trimester – while adding she had vowed to ”never be someone who complains” about pregnancy.

She said: “Because of what we’ve been through to get here, I always said I would never be someone who complains when I finally do get pregnant... but wow the 1st trimester. I think I was nauseous/throwing up until about 14 weeks.

“Everything and I mean EVERYTHING made me feel sick. I literally hated food. I found I could stomach green apples and crackers. I was basically living off apples lol.” She then joked her baby could come out looking like an apple as she had eaten so many recently.

Asked if she had struggled to conceive, Lucy laid bare her struggles to get pregnant and candidly answered: “I genuinely believe every baby is a miracle, but yes we did have our struggles. I think we went into it like most thinking it would happen easily. It was definitely not the case for us.”

Lucy continued: “There were times when it felt like bad news after bad news, it was never ending and the light at the end of the tunnel felt faint. We have seen many specialists over the years and there were times when I wasn’t sure if this could ever happen for us. We know there are people out there who have it way worse and for everyone struggling, I see you and I feel your pain.”

One fan asked in the question and answer session how many weeks pregnant Lucy was, to which she replied: “I hope everyone understands I won’t be sharing specific dates, but I will say we are expecting a little Pisces baby.” This means the baby is due sometime from the middle of February to the end of March next year.

While she won’t be revealing her due date, the former reality TV star said there will be a gender reveal at some point soon. Asked if she would be finding out the baby’s gender, she replied: “We are finding out very soon and will definitely share at some point!” Teasing fans, she asked: “What do you think, boy or girl?”

As someone who has gone through it herself, Lucy was then asked ‘How can I support someone who is struggling to conceive?’ She replied: “I love this question. It can be a very lonely and depressing time. I know for me it was all consuming.”

The TV star, whose sister Tiffany Watson has just welcomed her first child – a baby boy called Jude – with husband Cameron McGeehan, continued: “It can be hard for friends and family to know what to say – I get that.

“Sometimes too many questions is too much and then not asking at all makes you feel slightly unseen. I think just letting someone know you are there for them, checking in on how they are feeling.

“I would avoid saying, ‘if you just relax it will happen’, or, ‘when you stop thinking about it it will happen’. These kinds of things are unhelpful. Also avoiding them or the topic, not nice. People need to know they are in a safe space and they will open up about it if that’s what they want to do.”

Lucy and husband James met when both starred in Made In Chelsea. They bought their first home together in 2017 and tied the knot in a stunning ceremony in Kefalonia in Greece in 2021 before making it legal in a civil ceremony in the UK.
