Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke claims Andre Onana has already been "found out", doubling down on his stance that David de Gea is the better goalkeeper.

Onana, who signed from Inter Milan as part of a £47million transfer deal in July, made a howler during Wednesday's bruising 4-3 loss away to Bayern Munich in the Champions League and fronted up post-match to shoulder the blame. The Cameroon international replaced De Gea, who remains a free agent nearly three months after his £375,000-a-week contract expired, as United's No.1 goalkeeper in a decision which Yorke still doesn't think was correct.

He insisted last month that United should have kept De Gea and given Dean Henderson the opportunity to challenge, with both leaving the club in the summer. Now Yorke has taken aim at Onana once more, warning manager Erik ten Hag that he'll soon face calls to reverse his decision.

"In my opinion, Onana is not as good as De Gea," the former Aston Villa, Blackburn and Sunderland ace told OLBG. "Onana tries to be an outfield player rather than a goalkeeper sometimes and the people who have criticised De Gea and wanted him to leave will probably be the ones who will be calling him to come back. I'm hoping that doesn't happen for Man United's sake."

Continuing his criticism of 27-year-old Onana, Yorke added: "Man United have brought in a keeper who wants to start the attacks and is more aggressive in trying to dominate teams with possession. We know the Premier League has a higher intensity, balls will be coming into the box more regularly than in the Italian league where the players play at a slower pace.

"People have asked me why have I been so critical of Onana, I'm an individual who sees it as it is, it doesn't matter to me who or what you are. I will give Onana the benefit of the doubt, but the Premier League is different, you will get found out by playing in a high-profile team at a high-profile position. If Onana is not at the top of his game, he will get found out again."

De Gea had been set to remain at Old Trafford until the Red Devils allegedly withdrew their contract offer and began a fresh round of talks which resulted in the Spaniard, 32, departing. Like a number of other United legends, Yorke has hit out at the club's treatment of the Spaniard during those final negotiations.

"I've said before that Man United need to be careful what they wish for with losing David de Gea," he reaffirmed. "For all the good De Gea has done for Man United, the way his career ended was really bad. I hope this doesn't come back to haunt Man United.

"Be careful what you wish for. De Gea was the Golden Glove winner, a high-profile player who made mistakes, like the rest of us. De Gea winning the Golden Glove is like winning the Golden Boot and being the top scorer at the club but still getting replaced by the football club. That did not resonate well with me."
