Stuart Pearce has slammed Marcus Rashford for running 'like he has a fridge on his back' following Manchester United's 4-3 defeat at Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils were beaten for the third game in a row courtesy of strikes from Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Harry Kane and Mathys Tel. As for United, Rasmus Hojlund scored his first goal for the club and Casemiro added a late brace to give them some hope, but it proved to be not enough.

Erik ten Hag's side still have not won away from home this season and have lost their last three matches against Arsenal, Brighton and Bayern. After the game, ex-England left-back Pearce ripped into United's performance in Bavaria and hammered Rashford's off-the-ball running during the match.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Pearce claimed that Rashford was tracking backwards "like he has a fridge on his back" as Bayern often found gaps out wide to run into. Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry enjoyed a lot of space, especially in the first-half, and ended up causing United plenty of damage.

"United are under the cosh because too many of their players have jacked it in. Rashford half running back and Casemiro half running back," Pearce explained.

"I'm not sure what Onana said when he has a rant at Maguire in the summer but now is the time to have a rant at the back line, not just the back line but the whole team.

"Too many players who have given up the ghost and that is alarming. United are so off the pace and they are lucky that Bayern have not been more clinical."

"Too wide open, too regularly. Their goal to come back to 3-2 was a false dawn. They conceded four and that's what they deserved," Pearce added. "As silly as it sounds, the score flatters United. What concerns me is that United almost stopped trying for about 15 minutes - even though they scored in that time."

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes weighed in on United's performance and called for his team-mates to show more spirit as they bid to end their recent slump in form. Speaking after his side's defeat in Munich, Fernandes said: "The positive is that the spirit, the fighting spirit, was there. We tried.

"It wasn't still enough to win the game, or to get something from the game, but at periods, the team showed great spirit. But we have to do it more often and for 90 minutes."

Fernandes added: "Obviously, we want to have everyone back because we know that as many players we have available, the team will be stronger. And obviously more options for the manager to do his choices and whatever his tactics, the first 11 or whatever he picks. But obviously, still, we have the players and we have enough experience and enough talent in the team to get through this moment."
