Eurovision star shares 'life-altering' cancer diagnosis months after contest
A Eurovision star who performed in the final a few months ago has revealed the heartbreaking news he has been diagnosed with cancer.
Danny Estrin, who is lead singer of Australian band Voyager, sang the song Promises at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, coming ninth place in the competition. The band has since released a new album, Fearless In Love, and was about to go on tour.
But Danny said the tour would have to be postponed as he shared his “life-altering” news with fans. Writing on the band’s official Instagram page, the 41-year-old said: “Hi everyone. Danny here. Last week I was dealt some life-altering news. I’ve been diagnosed with cancer that requires immediate treatment.
“I am absolutely devastated that we cannot perform on our forthcoming European tour, especially after this incredible Eurovision year we’ve had. I am on strict doctors’ orders to not take this lightly, put my health first and get this sorted so we can be on stage again as soon as possible.”
He continued: “This has been an extremely hard decision to make, but one that everyone will hopefully understand. At this stage, the tour will be rescheduled to October 2024 and we’d love fans to keep hold of their tickets where possible, but we understand if you prefer to request a refund, you can do so from your point of sale.

“Voyager will perform our last show for a while at the America’s Cup Event in Fremantle, Western Australia this Sunday September 2023, so come and party with us before I start treatment.”
Danny added: “In the coming weeks I will focus on my health and family and ask that everyone please respect our privacy. I truly value and appreciate everyone’s support and understanding during this time. I’m surrounded by my incredible bandmates and team who are navigating all things Voyager whilst I am out of action. Love, your fierce friend Danny!”

Rock band Lord of the Lost, who were Germany’s entry to this year’s Eurovision, wrote: “Brother, all the love and all the best! All the power and energy that you need. We love you!” Belgian entry Stef Gustaph said: “Sending nothing but love and strength! Wishing you a speedy recovery and I am sure we will see each other come 2024.”
Spanish Eurovision star Blanca Paloma also offered her support, writing: “Dear Danny, I wish with all my soul that you recover soon. Thank you for informing us and thank you for taking care of yourself. In Spain we love you very much! A hug!”
Fans also sent well wishes, with one writing: “Brutal news. Proud of you all representing Australian metal and what a year you’ve had. Take the time, be present with your family and be kind to yourself.” Another added: “You got this, Danny! The community is all here to support you x.”
