The Traitors will be back with a brand new selection of strangers ready to play the nail-biting game in a second series.

Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the psychological reality competition saw 22 strangers attempt to master a game of detection, backstabbing and trust in a bid to win a prize of up to £120,000.

Claudia, who will be returning as host, said: “I can’t wait to go back to the castle to watch people play the greatest game on television. I’m knitting a high funnel sweater immediately.”

The BBC reality gameshow has now had 34million views on BBC iPlayer and is the biggest brand new entertainment launch for the BBC in two years.

"We can certainly expect even more deceit and psychological games for the Traitors and the Faithfuls.”

The Traitors was the biggest new series for young audiences across all BBC titles last year and the highest rating new entertainment series on the BBC since at least 2017 for young audiences.

Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert, commented: “We were delighted so many viewers of BBC One and BBC iPlayer loved the first season.

"They told us they enjoyed the drama and entertainment of watching our players judge each other, often leaping to false conclusions, but also forming alliances and real friendships. We’re excited to be making a second season with Claudia as together we build on the success of the first.”

Applications to take part in the next series of the smash-hit show are now open.

Details of when fans of the show can expect The Traitors to return to BBC One will be released in due course.

After a series packed with twists and turns, the victorious final three - Aaron, Hannah and Meryl - took home their share of the £101,050 prize pot.
