Teen driver appears to deliberately mow down and kill cyclist, 64 as pal giggles
Police have this week said the tragic hit-and-run death of a retired police chief out cycling was a deliberate murder - after shocking video of a teen driver mowing him down went viral.
Andreas Probst, 64, was riding in the bike lane when he was struck by a 2016 Hyundai Elantra in Las Vegas at around 6am. This past weekend, frightening footage from inside a car shows a driver asking his friends, "Ready?" as the passenger records, giggling. “Yeah, hit his ass,” he tells the driver before they plough into the retiree.
The start of the distressing video shows the passengers cursing at passing vehicles as they travel quickly along North Tenaya Way, close to West Centennial Parkway, before coming across the Californian mountain biker, Andreas.
The vehicle is seen in the footage coming up behind a red-clad man riding a bicycle alongside the road. The motorist pulls into the bike lane behind him, honks his horn, and purposefully strikes the cyclist's back tire, sending him flying with the encouragement of his buddies.
The passenger records Andreas lying helplessly on the side of the road behind the vehicle. “Damn that n* got knocked out!” the passenger says as the driver can be heard stepping on the gas.

According to a department statement, detectives used a video of the collision that was broadcast on social media to establish that it was deliberate. Police announced that open murder will be added to the boy's original charges.
The victim, a retired police chief, was said to be known for his laugh and love of coffee. The former officer was said to have relocated to Las Vegas after leaving his position as Bell, California's police chief in 2009. A memorial service for Andreas, who served in police enforcement for 35 years, was held earlier this month, according to the Review Journal.
“He was honestly like a ray of sunshine,” Taylor Probst said of her father. “That just bled through your life.” “He was an amazing man, a husband,” Andreas's wife, Crystal, added. “A father, a brother.”
Taylor said that she had received an alert from her father's apple watch, which indicated that the retiree had fallen. Taylor and Crystal said they rushed to the area, which was three miles away.
Crystal said once she saw the site of the incident, she knew it wasn't good. People were horrified after watching the footage and rushed to social media to express their fury over Andreas' murder.
One individual even said: "The total disregard for life is appalling." While others said that people were mourning the loss of the retiring police chief.
