Former Premier League referee David Coote has been charged with making an indecent image of a child.

David Coote has come out as gay in his first interview since he was sacked as a Premier League referee last month, with the official also admitting he used cocaine as an escape.

David Coote has made a tearful apology to ex-Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp and “anybody who I’ve offended by my actions”.

The organisation responsible for professional referees in the UK, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), said in a statement that his employment with them had been terminated "with immediate effect".
