Prince Harry and Meghan Markle met with NATO representatives at the 2023 Invictus Games, making a "powerplay" against Prince William, an expert claims.

Earlier this week, Meghan joined her husband at the games in Dusseldorf, Germany. Harry has been at the games since the opening ceremony on September 6. Together, the two have been spotted at various matches holding each other and joining in on a stadium-wide sing-along of Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline.

But on Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shook hands with NATO members and posed for photos with them and their families. It was confirmed that they spoke with Joint Force Commander General Luigi Miglietta. This interaction happened days before Harry's estranged older brother, William, is set to fly to the United Nations in New York to speak about environmental issues.

Nick Ede, a brand and culture expert, spoke to MailOnline about the message the couple were sending to William and the rest of the Royal Family. "Harry and Meghan know that this is a really good time to shine their lights on both the Invictus Games but other power players too," he said, "There will always be a power play between the two brothers and their wives as they are the most famous pairs on the planet so all eyes will be on them."

Besides typical brotherly quarrels - that aren't really that typical - the photo op gave Meghan and Harry the opportunity to show off to the Royal Family and the world. Nick added: "With William meeting the UN chiefs next week the brothers have covered some of the most important and powerful people on the planet. For both of them this is positive PR but also inevitably raise eyebrows as to where they will be going next."

Before the Invictus Games, Harry stopped in England for a quick trip to attend a WellChild charity awards ceremony. While there, he did not see his father King Charles or his older brother William. The family has been estranged since Harry stepped back from his royal duties in 2020, along with his wife Meghan.

While meeting with NATO chiefs, they also met the families. An Instagram video captured Meghan saying hello to a group of children sitting on the ground by the officers, but as soon as she crouched down to talk to the kids, one little girl got up and ran away. It's unclear why she left or what Meghan said to them. After meeting the NATO representatives, Harry and Meghan changed into more casual clothes as they watched a wheelchair volleyball match where Ukraine played Nigeria.
