Man mauled by two dogs and primary school put on 'lockdown' in home-time horror

A busy road running through a rural village remains on lockdown tonight after a man was mauled by two dogs. The attack happened as children as young as four were leaving a nearby a primary school in Stonall, Staffordshire. Some children were prevented from the exiting the school by police to ensure their safety.

Residents took to social media to report a heavy emergency services presence. Staffordshire Police have made an arrest and continue to investigate.

A man was taken to hospital, where he is recovering from his injuries, following the latest in a string of dog attacks, including the mauling of an 11-year-old girl in nearby Birmingham this week.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Constabulary said: "A number of people helped to try and get the dogs off the man and contained one of the dogs outside. The other was contained within the owner’s flat.

"We prevented a number of school children leaving local primary school, St Peter’s Primary Academy, for safety reasons. The children have since been allowed to go home.

"A 30-year-old man, from the Lichfield area, has been arrested on suspicion of having dogs dangerously out of control. An investigation is ongoing including the determination of the dogs’ breed." Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident 405 of September 14.
