Ella Morgan Clark has made history by becoming the very first transgender contestant to ever grace the set of E4’s Married at First Sight UK, and the charismatic contestant has revealed what finally drove her to apply to the popular show after failing to find true love in the real world.

The new reality TV star, who is set to take E4 viewers by storm, will join seven other brides and eight grooms as they head down the aisle to marry a complete stranger in the hopes that it will end in a fairytale - but not without a few bumps along the way.

Ella, from Weston-super-Mare, in the southwest of England, told The Mirror and other press that she found it increasingly difficult to find genuine connections through dating apps and meeting men on nights out. Instead of finding someone to call her own, instead, Ella has been faced with being 'fetishised' by several men on different occasions who wanted to experience what it would be like to date and 'go further' with a transgender woman.

The clinic consultant explained that her experience of dating as a trans woman has been incredibly difficult, and she almost gave up on finding true love before the MAFS UK opportunity reared its head.

"I've really struggled to date people being trans. I'm honest with people when I'm dating - I haven't always been - but now I'm honest and tell them what surgeries I've had done and there's never a right or wrong time I think to tell someone you have transitioned. I don't want to keep going through my whole life having to say that I have transitioned," Ella explained.

"I can be picky and the guys I want never usually want me or I'm always just someone's dirty secret and I didn't want to be a fetish anymore. I've done such a bad job myself with dating and I'm sick of feeling like my confidence goes down every time someone dumps me because they find out that I'm trans or when I tell them that I am.

"Before I would tell these men, they would be saying to me that I'm girlfriend material and I'm amazing and perfect. I just thought to myself recently 'I'm never going to find anyone', but I want to find someone and I want to be with someone and find true love and be happy. So when MAFS came up, I thought why not let the experts do it all for me and let's go on this wild journey in search for love," Ella added. "I could just never find anyone who wanted to accept me for me."

Speaking about the wedding day she had always dreamed of, Ella sadly admitted that she always harboured this overwhelming fear that nobody would ever want to marry her because of her differences.

"I never thought that anyone would ever want to marry me. I just didn't think as a society anyone would accept me and want to spend the rest of their lives with me. So for me, it's always been like a little princess dream in my head. And then I transitioned and I thought, actually, you know what, it may be a possibility now," she explained.

"I still thought it was a dream rather than reality though. So for me, personally, it was the absolute best day of my life when I finally did get married. I'll never forget it and I got to be that princess that I've always dreamed of and now it's finally reality because it finally happened for me."

Speaking ahead of the brand-new series, which airs on Monday September 18, Ella added: "This experiment is so much more than just me getting married. I see this as a big deal for someone who has transitioned."

Ella will join fellow brides are Tasha, Shona, Rosaline, Porsha, Peggy, Laura and Jay, while the grooms are Thomas, Terence, Paul, Nathaniel, Luke, Georges, Brad and Arthur.
