A woman has died after being trampled by a herd of cows while walking her dogs along a public footpath.

The woman, who hasn’t been named, was walking the access route near Welshpool, Powys, through a field which is home to a herd of 40 cows. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating the woman’s death.

A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police said today: “We can confirm that a woman died after walking her dogs along a public access path through a field containing around 40 cows. The incident took place on the evening of September 1 in the Maesmawr area of Welshpool. Her family has been notified. The coroner and HSE have also been informed.”

The harrowing ordeal happened on the evening of Friday, September 1. An HSE spokesperson said today: “We are aware of this incident and are making enquiries.”

Last week, another dog walker told how she was trampled on by a herd of cows and suffered life-changing injuries. Heather Vance, from Magherafelt, Northern Ireland, sustained multiple fractures in the horror.

She told BBC: "The animals began to trample over me. This continued on for quite some time and I just lay there with my whole body in severe pain. I am lucky to be alive here today to tell this story, and don't think I would have been without the air ambulance." Her dog, though, had to be put down due to injuries he suffered in the ordeal.
