Taylor Swift has been announced as this year's winner of the Best Music Video award at the MTV VMAs in New Jersey for her song Anti-Hero.

"The fact that this is a fan-voted award means so much to me," she said, "I cannot believe it was a year ago at the VMAs that I announced the Midnights album, and all I have to say tonight is thank you. I'm blown away."

It was a tough category with a number of big hitters in the industry fighting it out for the prestigious award. Among them was the night's act with the most nominees - Taylor Swift, who was recognised for the Anti-Hero video. Doja Cat was also in the running initially for her album Attention. It's a category the artist is becoming a regular in, following 2021's nomination for Kiss Me More alongside SZA and last year's nomination for Woman.

It is one of five awards Doja was up for - the same number as fellow Best Music Video award hopefuls Miley Cyrus, who was nominated for her video for Flowers; Olivia Rodrigo's Vampire video; Nicki Minaj with the production for Super Freaky Girl; and Sam Smith's Unholy. SZA finished off the category with the video for Kill Bill one of six nominations for the star.

The ceremony at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, marks 40 years of the awards which act as a time capsule for pop culture in the modern era. Over the years icons such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé have all won big on a number of occasions.

It was a big night for Taylor - she was super excited when *NSYNC reunited for the first time in ten years, visibly jumping up and down and looking around as she put her hands over her mouth.

Taylor's Anti-Hero music video won big at the award show - taking home not only Video of the Year but Song of The Year, Best Pop, and Best Director. This is the second year in a row she won Video of the Year. Last year she took home the Moonman for her music video All Too Well: The Short Film. It's the fourth time the singer has won the award - she won in 2015 for Bad Blood and in 2019 for You Need To Calm Down.

At the last VMAs, Taylor announced her tenth album, Midnights. Fans waited on the edge of their seats to see if Taylor would announce anything this time around, but the singer said nothing, only thanking her fans and team.

When she accepted this award and the one for Best Direction, she brought up her editor and cinematographer on stage with her. They didn't speak during her Best Directing speech, but they each said a few words when the video won Best Video.
