The girl filmed being savaged by a dog told of her ordeal, as her mum said she feared it would kill her.

Ana Paun, 11, said of the XL Bully: “It stayed on my arm. I screamed.” Her mum added: “She could have died.” The dogs are being condemned online by owners who even admit they are dangerous.

Ana’s mum has backed the Mirror’s call for action on dangerous pets, as her traumatised daughter recovers from the horrific savaging.

The 11-year-old was mauled by a crazed XL Bully that sank its teeth into her arm and shoulder before turning on men who rushed to help her and then dragging a boy to the ground.

Her mum, who does not want to be named, said she feared the dog would kill her child, who last night told of her “panic” as it hurtled towards her. The Mirror launched a fight for action to protect people against dangerous dogs in November 2021.

This year we renamed it the Jack Lis Law campaign in memory of the 10-year-old killed by a Bully in 2021. Ana’s mum said: “I fully support the Mirror campaign. I’m still shocked by what happened and still not feeling very well. I was scared for my daughter.

“I was worrying that it would kill her, if it had got her neck, she could have died. It’s terrible. I’m thanking to God she is alive. The Government needs to stop these dogs and listen to this campaign. I don’t want another family to go through this. It’s hurt us too much. I don’t want this happening to other children. They must listen.”

Harrowing video footage showed Ana being attacked on Saturday in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, while walking to shops with her sister, 18, after the dog escaped its collar.

The youngster said: “The dog was staring at me. I got terrified and he jumped on my arm and he bit me. I was screaming and I couldn’t do anything, the dog kept on staying on my arm. Someone grabbed him but he bit my shoulder. I want him to go away, to die. All of the bulldogs should be banned and the owner should be in prison.”

Ana spent a night in hospital with serious injuries and returned home on Sunday. Her mum said: “She’s fine, recovering now.” Yousef Khan Ahmadzai was bitten as he tried to help the terrified child.

The carwash owner said: “The dog was out of control. It went crazy. I tried to grab the girl. My first attempt failed, the second time I managed to free her. The owner pulled the dog and I pulled the girl. The girl ran and the dog ran towards us.”

Jonathan Ullah, 37, witnessed the attack. He said: “It was horrible. The dog was running around trying to bite people at random. I thought I would be next. I hid behind a bin.”

Police said the dog’s owner was last night in hospital and would be spoken to in due course. The XL Bully was taken to a vet suffering from heat exhaustion and is in secure kennels while investigations continue.

West Midlands Police said: “Our dog unit will consider what will happen to it.” There have been 77,269 dog attacks across England and Wales in just four years, police figures obtained by Channel 4 News show.
