South Africa's Steven Kitshoff left fans speechless when his bright pink 'Barbie girl' pants were exposed at the Rugby World Cup.

The amusing incident happened during his country's 18-3 win against Scotland at the Stade Velodrome on Sunday afternoon. South Africa, who are the defending champions, were victorious thanks to tries from Pieter-Steph Du Toit and Kurt-Lee Arendse.

As South Africa got the result, TV viewers got an eyeful when Kitshoff's green shorts were pulled up during a tackle. That exposed his bright pink pants made by Australian brand Budgy Smuggler, who specialise in rather small undergarments.

Kitshoff's bold attire has left fans on social media wondering whether he's a big fan of the new Barbie film. The motion picture, which stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, has become a cultural phenomenon since its release in July.

One fan has joked Kitshoff "chose to be a Barbie girl mid-game". Although the 31-year-old might be questioning his choice of underwear for South Africa's next match, he'll be confident of winning a second successive Rugby World Cup.

The bookies are tipping France to win the tournament on home soil, with South Africa as the second favourites. New Zealand are the third favourites - but lost 27-13 to France in their opener - while Six Nations champions Ireland are the fourth favourites.

South Africa coach Jacques Nienaber was delighted with his team's victory. Scotland entered the tournament in good form after beating England, Wales and Italy in this year's Six Nations. "I think it could have been a slippery one," said Nienaber.

"Scotland are a good side - they are not number five in the world for nothing. They pushed things a long way in the game, I thought we had a little bit of dominance in the first half but we had to grind the win out."

Scotland coach Gregor Townsend, meanwhile, said: "We felt we'd kick on in the second half and we didn't. A lot of that is down to our inaccuracy. We know we have to better. We didn't get into the flow of our game."

Scotland captain James Ritchie added: "Credit to South Africa for putting us under pressure. Yes, we created opportunities, but we pride ourselves on taking those opportunities, so we have to be better. I'm really proud how we fronted up physically.

"I thought our defence was excellent, we really took it to them physically. Plenty of time to dust ourselves off, all the hard work we have put in has not gone away, it is one set-back but we have loads to play for."
