It comes as around 40 inmates at the London prison have been moved out in the aftermath of Khalife's escape, the Justice Secretary has said. Alex Chalk said on Sunday that the preliminary findings of his investigation into the Category B jail have found that the relevant procedures and security staff were in place.

But he said dozens of individuals on remand have been moved to different sites "out of an abundance of caution" amid questions over why a former soldier accused of a terror offence was not in the highest security prison. The Mirror has contacted the Prison Service and asked for further information from the Met.

Former soldier Khalife, 21, was awaiting trial after being charged with offences relating to terrorism and the Official Secrets Act when he escaped on Wednesday. He had been previously stationed at Beacon Barracks in Staffordshire while working as a computer network engineer with the Royal Corps of Signals. He had allegedly planted a fake bomb at the RAF base and gathered information that might be useful to terrorists or enemies of the UK.

Khalife was arrested on Saturday morning by an undercover police officer while riding a bicycle along Greenford Canal in Northolt with witnesses describing seeing him with a sleeping bag and a Waitrose cooler bag of groceries as he was detained. He had managed to cover more than 12 miles since his escape.
