Peter Andre admitted he has not actually banned his children from appearing on Love Island, but joked he would flee the UK if they did during an appearance on Good Morning Britain.

The pop star, 49, told hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard that he urged Junior, 17, and Princess, 15, instead to go on the show to present it.

GMB hosts Ben and Kate, who have teenagers of their own, asked Peter about his tough stance on the matter in the ITV studio on Friday morning.

Kate asked: “You apparently have said you would ban your kids going on Love Island. Is that because of the nakedness?”

Peter admitted he ‘says things in jest a lot of the time’, explaining: “I said my daughter was going to be a nun for how many years. Everyone knew I was joking, but I was kind of secretly going ‘I hope she will’.”

He added: “When they turn 18 your kids are going to do what they want. What I said to them was, if you have a choice, I’d rather you present Love Island – although Maya Jama is doing a great job right now.

“But what I'm saying is, it’s better to try and be a presenter. Look at yourself in that way, rather than a contestant.

“Even though I've been a contestant in many shows,” he added before he joked: “Look, if they really want to do something like that, I'll just leave the country.”

Peter met their mum Katie Price on I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! in 2004 and they shared their wild antics in ITV reality series Katie & Peter.

Pete previously told The Mirror: “I think with I’m A Celebrity there’s no alcohol, whereas Love Island is a show where people can lose their inhibitions on TV. It’s different when you are a dad and you see your daughter or son doing something.

“I’ve done crazy things but you don’t realise until you have children and you go, ‘I don’t really want you to do the crazy stuff I did.’”

Surrey-based Pete is also dad to Millie, eight, and Theo, six, with wife Emily MacDonagh, 32, who is an NHS doctor.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
