The price of an airline ticket is falling rapidly: Experts estimate that domestic airfare will be 29 percent lower in fall than it was this summer. Those looking to book holiday travel in the upcoming months, may want to hop on the deals.

"That's about £69 per ticket less expensive than trips taken in June, July, August -- the peak summer months," Haley Berg, economist at Hopper, said.

"You should be monitoring the price of your holiday travel now and expect to book in the next 4 to 6 weeks. You want to book both your Christmas and Thanksgiving travel by mid-October, but expect that prices will be the lowest between about Sept. 15 and Oct. 15."

Haley stated that she anticipates the beginning of next year will be even less expensive if the end of the year is still too pricey for consumers. The shift coincides with a nationwide decline in airline cancellations. Airlines stated that canceled flights over the summer were less than two percent, a substantial improvement over last year, according to ABC.

According to the travel advice website The Vacationer, you should leave early during the week. If at all possible, Sunday is preferable to Monday. Thanksgiving Day is a terrific day to fly, despite not being ideal. If you can manage a shorter trip, Black Friday is also a fantastic day to travel.

Aim to fly home on the Friday or Monday following Thanksgiving as that is when most people return. Tuesday is much better than Monday if you can wait another day.

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving should be avoided at all costs. Flying is very expensive on one of the busiest travel days of the year. Additionally, it is a stressful experience because airports are constantly crowded.

Avoid flying home on the Sunday following Thanksgiving. To reach home before the workweek begins, the majority of people fly that day. The experts advise taking a flight on Friday, Monday, or Tuesday.

The week before Christmas, the earlier you leave, the better. Before taking off, Americans will try to complete a few days of work. Fly on Monday, December 18 or Tuesday, December 19, if you can. Ideally, Sunday, December 17 is the most suitable date to depart. Although flying on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day will save you money and result in fewer passengers, you might not want to travel on a holiday.

This year, Christmas occurs on a Monday, so many people will travel home the next day. Try to postpone your trip until Thursday or Friday as Tuesday, December 26, and Wednesday, December 27, will both be busy travel days.

The 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, the three days leading up to Christmas Eve, will be hectic travel days. If you can, stay away from them and leave earlier in the week. For your return travel, avoid the Tuesday and Wednesday after Christmas.
