A 16-year-old pedestrian who died after being hit by a car which mounted a pavement has been named.

Alisha Goup, from Royton, died from her injuries after she was struck by the vehicle while walking in Oldham, Greater Manchester, on Thursday.

Two men who were initially arrested following the tragic incident have now been charged by Greater Manchester Police.

Omar Choudhury, 22, from Royton and Hamidur Rahman, 24, from Oldham, have both been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

The duo have been remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court next week on Monday, February 27.

A police spokesman said: "These charges are a result of an investigation by GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit into a fatal road traffic collision on Rochdale Road in Oldham at around 1:30pm on Thursday, where sadly a 16-year-old girl pedestrian passed away from her injuries sustained at the scene.

"She has now been identified as Alisha Goup from Royton. Her family have asked for continued privacy whilst they grieve for their loss.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, who rushed to the scene, Alisha tragically died at the scene shortly after the collision.

A cordon was put in place after emergency services worker arrived at the site of the crash, which happened closed to the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Rochdale Road was closed for a number of hours on Thursday, as officers and detectives carried out their investigations at the scene.

Pictures from the scene showed a large number of police and emergency services in attendance.

Witnesses from the scene described seeing a damaged black vehicle which could be seen past the cordon.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage or doorbell footage to come forward, by calling 0161 856 4741.
