Celebrity MasterChef finalist Amy Walsh says show rival Luca Bish’s childlike antics made her want to mother him.

Amy, 36, who has a year-old baby, said of the 24-year-old Love Island star: “I mothered him like an idiot. I was crying when he was getting good feedback. That one was a really unlikely friendship – we really got on. He took the mick out of me the whole time but he was the energy I needed.” The third finalist, opera and insurance adverts star Wynne Evans, 51, was also charmed by Luca.

He said: “Luca’s like a child, and I was the oldest in the semi-finals, but he did make me laugh! I just revert back to being a child when I’m around him.” Luca said he was surprised to be invited to take part in the BBC series, having only found fame on the ITV dating show last summer, when he coupled up with Gemma Owen.

He said: “The highest moment was when MasterChef wanted me on, and then walking in that room with so many talented people after I’ve just laid on a beach for the last eight weeks! It’s a reality check. I’m really happy to be in the presence of such talented people.” The trio are the last three from the 20 celebrities who started out on this year’s BBC show.

In tonight’s final they have two hours to prepare a faultless three-course meal for judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace. Emmerdale star Amy said she was up against it during filming but found focus near the end. She added: “I wouldn’t say I’ve handled it to the best of my ability but that comes down to the fact that I was sleep-deprived from having a baby.

“We were planning a wedding and we were moving house. The closer I got to the final, it made me think – I need to get there now.” Wynne said of his rivals: “Luca has the best presentation, by a mile, but Amy has good flavours. They’re both strong for different reasons.” Amy praised him too, saying: “Wynne’s imagination is always one that you just cannot beat.”
