Superdrug to shut three more stores over coming weeks - full list of shops to go

Superdrug is closing three of its stores over the coming weeks.

The beauty and healthcare retailer will shut its Bromsgrove site on November 18. Its doors will close for the final time at 5:30pm on that Saturday.

This is not the first time Superdrug has left this particular high street. In 2010, Superdrug was based in a different unit on the same street but shut down the site on June 12. At the time, the retailer said it was not making a comment on the store's closure according to reports by the Bromsgrove Advertiser.

After this, the Superdrug store in Llanelli, Wales is set to bring down the shutters in early December. There are two Superdrug stores in Llanelli, and the site set for closure is its pharmacy store on Vaughan Street. This is located inside a Savers store.

Its Newbury branch on Northbrook Street will also close this year - but no date has been confirmed as it stands. It is uncertain how many staff will be affected by the closures. However, the retailer said all staff working at the affected stores will be offered roles in sites nearby.

A handful of other Superdrug sites have shut over the first half of the year. This included its Kirkcaldy back in February and Portswood in January. The retailers Basildon stores also closed for good on August 26.

A spokesperson for Superdrug told the Mirror: "Our store estate continues to perform well, and we plan to invest in 25 new stores throughout 2023. Store closures remain minimal and are a result of the overall optimisation of our store estate. Wherever possible employees will be redeployed to nearby stores."

However, shoppers should not be fearful that their local Superdrug will be closing as in April the retailer announced that it planned to open 25 "bigger and better" new stores throughout the year creating 570 jobs. It also said it was planning to renovate 70 of its current stores which includes new shop fronts, fully recyclable signage, improved flooring and ceiling tiles made from bio-soluble mineral wool, clay and starch, energy-efficient LED lighting, new floor layouts and upgraded internal signage. The retailer currently has nearly 800 stores across the UK.

The Mirror has approached Superdrug for comment.
