Charli XCX shouts out EastEnders writers after Lily names baby after singer
Charli XCX was delighted to find out one of the characters in EastEnders named their daughter after the singer.
In a recent episode of the long-running series, viewers found out Stacey Slater's daughter, Lily, named her first child Charli due to her love for the Speed Drive singer. Stacey asked the baby's father, Ricky Mitchell: "Aww, after Uncle Charlie?” to which he quickly clarified: "No, after Charlie XCX."
The clip immediately went viral and Charli, 31, came across it on her Twitter homepage. She retweeted the clip and commented: "Shout out my gays in the writer's room!" Fans immediately rushed to the comment section to talk about the iconic crossover, with one user saying: "I can only imagine Speed Drive playing in the background while the baby was born."
Charli came across the hilarious clip (Twitter/@charli_xcx)"This is the most British crossover ever," another commented while one fan posted: "There’s nothing more iconic than this." Another added: "The gays are winning." Charli had a phenomenal few months after getting her sixth top 10 single in the UK with her song, Speed Drive, from the Barbie movie.
Meanwhile, EastEnders impressed fans following the birth of Lily's baby. New grandmother, Stacey Slater, was quick to ask what the baby's name was to which Ricky revealed it was Charli. Stacey was instantly left touched over the moniker, thinking it was after Uncle Charlie Slater, who died in 2016.

Elsewhere, EastEnders dropped a series of clues at the National Television Awards ahead of the explosive Christmas storyline.
The hidden clues didn't go unnoticed by eagle-eyed fans who were quick to take to social media to point out the various clues shared by the BBC One soap. This Christmas, one male character will be killed off in scenes at The Queen Vic, which sees Stacey Slater alongside Suki Panesar, Kathy Beale, Denise Fox, Sharon Watts and Linda Carter standing over a dead body. One of the women is tipped to be the killer while details of what happens and who dies remain unknown but the victim is wearing amber cufflinks.
While watching the NTAs, some fans noticed that Lacey Turner, Suki star Balvinder Sopal, Kathy star Gillian Taylforth, Denise star Diane Parish, Sharon star Letitia Dean and Linda star Kellie Bright all wore outfits that were the same colour as the Christmas flashforward, which was released earlier this year, in a clever move.
