David Silva has described Erling Haaland as “a beast” and said he would love to have played with him at Manchester City.

Haaland scored 52 goals from 53 games in all competitions last season, his heroics helping City to the Treble haul of the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

Norway star Haaland - recently-crowned PFA and UEFA Player of the Year - has started this campaign on fire as well, with six goals in as many games, keeping him on course to repeat last season's goalscoring heroics.

Silva scored 77 goals for City from 436 appearances, but was famed for his ability to create for others, registering 140 assists during his glittering 10-year spell with the Blues.

The former City star said he would have relished setting up chances for Haaland, knowing the deadly 23-year-old goal machine would more often than not find the net.

“Haaland is a beast and I like the way he moves on the field,” said Silva. “I would have loved to have played with him, to help him score even more goals!”

Silva also reckons his former club look “unstoppable” following their historic Treble triumph and flawless start to the new season.

Silva, who spent a decade at City before leaving in 2020, is convinced Pep Guardiola's side are out on their own after bagging the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup last season.

Former playmaker Silva, 37, forced to retire this summer after a knee injury, said City – who have won five of the last six league titles – can dominate for the foreseeable future.

City have begun their latest title defence with four straight wins to top the Premier League and added the UEFA Super Cup to their formidable trophy haul under Guardiola last month.

“They have an amazing team with some amazing players,” said Silva. “This is Pep's eighth season at City. The first year he was getting used to the Premier League, but now they are almost unstoppable.

“ Arsenal are the only team I can see who maybe have a chance of challenging City. The rest? I don't think they can.”

Silva won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups during his time at City, and was thrilled to witness their Treble-clinching Champions League win last season.

“I watched nearly all of City's games in the Champions League last season,” said Silva. “I couldn't win it when I was there, but I'm so happy for the club that they were finally able to do it.

“They deserve it. The club deserves it, the supporters deserve to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup – the Treble. It was an amazing achievement.”
