The concerned friend of a dad-to-be who has chosen a questionable name for his unborn baby son has appealed for advice on how to talk him out of the name choice, because they are "worried about the child's wellbeing" in the future. The pal revealed that they have been "unable to make any ground" in advising their friend against the name, who wants to call his baby son Diesel.

Taking to Reddit to share their conundrum, they wrote: "My friend is having a baby son and wants to name the child 'Diesel'. How do I talk him out of it?", before going on to explain: "He thinks that names determine a child's outcome and if he gives his kid a tough name, he'll have a tough kid.

"Guy is a hypermasculine type and is stubborn to the fault so I've really been unable to make any ground," the anonymous friend penned. "Probably shouldn't care so much but my friend is dead serious and I can't help but worry about the child's well-being in the future."

Taking to the comments section, one responder argued that the dad's parenting will impact his son more than his name. They wrote: "The dad's parenting will have an impact, the name not that much. If he's hypermasculine, the son is in for a serious dose. You could suggest that the son should have a second and/or a third name, just to make sure his identity is unique (and that he can switch up his main name if he wants to)."

In response, the concerned friend jumped to the dad-to-be's rescue, writing: "He's a good dude, not super worried about the parenting, honestly. When push comes to shove he’s pretty empathetic and caring. Good advice with the second name, though, thanks. Gonna try that."

"As a consolation, it looks like everyone will have weird names a few years from now. Poor little Unleaded won't stand out too much," pointed out another user on the platform. Another person suggested: "Get a dog and name it Diesel before the baby is born."
