McDonald's fans have expressed their devastation as the fast-food giant has axed a limited-edition item from their menu, with lovers of the chain branding the controversial decision as "utterly criminal" as it makes way for new items.

This week, the chain has announced that six tasty items will join its menu at 11am on September 6, including the Big Tasty and the Big Tasty with bacon, which will be returning for six weeks only. These will be joined by Mozzarella Dippers, the Cadbury Flake Chocolate McFlurry, the Cadbury Flake Raspberry McFlurry and the Caramel Waffle Latte.

But sweet treat lovers will have to say goodbye to the Double Chocolate Pie, which has become a true fan favourite since it was first introduced to the Maccies menu back in June. The dessert is a twist on the apple pie and combines a chocolate crust with a rich chocolate sauce. Although some restaurants stopped stocking the pie in August, it officially comes off the menu today (Tuesday, September 5).

People on social media certainly haven't hesitated in expressing their views on the decision, with one person writing on Twitter: "Utterly criminal that @McDonaldsUK has stopped selling the chocolate pie," accompanied by two broken heart emojis.

"I am gutted the double chocolate pie has been removed from the menus at @McDonaldsUK. Why did it have to be limited edition!? It's too good not to be constant in the UK!," another wrote. Another Twitter user begged McDonald's to bring back the chocolate pie, stating that their "life is not the same" alongside multiple crying face emojis.

Other items to be axed from the menu include the BBQ Quarter Pounder and Cheesy Garlic Bites. But it's not all doom and gloom, because September 6 also marks the first day of the return of McDonald's Monopoly, in which players can win a staggering £100,000, a brand new MINI electric car or even a TUI holiday worth £2,000.

All you need to do to be in with a chance to win is to buy menu items such as fries, wraps, drinks or a McFlurry, where game pieces are stuck to the side. Each game piece represents roads and train stations, just like the classic board game. Once you collect a set, you win a prize - and the rarer that set is, the better the giveaway will be.
