BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent was a no-show leaving her co-host Jon Kay to hold the fort along with stand-in presenters Tina Daheley and Ben Boulous.

Sally's absence comes after the programme has undergone a major format shake-up, leaving fans concerned over Sally's absence. The 52 year old presenter has been working for BBC Breakfast on a freelance basis since 2011 and became a main fixture on the show in 2021.

Sally usually hosts the programme from Monday through to Wednesday in the studio with Jon Kay but this morning, Jon was not only on his own but was hosting live from Langstone Harbour in Portsmouth, reporting a special on pollution and sewage.

And in a turn of events, stand-in presenters Tina Daheley and Ben Boulous were sat on the red sofa in the studio in Salford. Amid news of the programme's shake-up, Jon, 53, was noticeably absent recently but in a bid to quell any speculation, the father of three took to social media to inform his fans that he was simply taking a much needed break.

He wrote: "Enjoying some extra sleep and long-planned annual leave with the family, so no need to set my alarm clock tomorrow morning. Back on the red sofa with my BBC Breakfast family in Salford in two weeks' time." And at that time Sally was joined on the sofa along with presenter Ben Thompson. Jon enjoyed a two week break in Corsica.

He shared a photo of his holiday on Instagram with fans as he showed that he was fully embracing holiday life wearing a tropical print shirt. While Sally hasn't provided a reason behind her absence she cerrtainly isn't the only one to step away from the show, over recent weeks.

Presenter Charlie Stayt was also missing recently, which left his co-host Naga Munchetty to host the show alongside relief presenter Ben. The pair normally front the current affairs programme together from Thursday to Saturday each week and have done since Naga joined the presenter line-up back in 2014.

While Jon conducted his special report live from Portsmouth, it seems that his viewers were less thn impressed over the segment and were forced to change the channel as it ruined their breakfast. Taking to social media, fans made it quite clear that they were fuming.

One said: "@BBCBreakfast Much as this needs investigating, are floaters suitable viewing at breakfast? We've just turned over." Another wrote: "@BBCBreakfast How to turn viewers off from #BBCBreakfast ... talk about sewage! Bleurgh! (sic)"

A third commented: "Whose idea was it to do a full feature on sewage at breakfast time? Not the nicest thing when you’re eating breakfast." And a fourth added: "#BBCBreakfastYes let's have a debate on sewage at BREAKFAST time. Great planning BBC." (sic)Another raged: "Is it the MUPPET SHOW on location?...Perhaps the increase in the UK's population has something to do with the problem!..."
