Adam Peaty 'needed stitches' after brawl with team-mate following joke about ex

Team GB swimmer Adam Peaty was left with facial injuries after a fight with one of his team-mates.

The incident unfolded after Peaty, 28, allegedly slapped Luke Greenbank's backside and made a comment about his partner. Greenbank, 25, has been dating fellow simmer Anna Hopkin, 27, for two years. She was previously in a relationship with Peaty.

Greenbank retaliated to Peaty's actions, with the furious clash taking place at a British Swimming training camp. The Mirror has approached Peaty's representatives for comment.

British Swimming has told The Mirror: "An incident occurred at a recent training session that was quickly and effectively resolved by the athletes involved and the staff present at the session."

Peaty is one of Britain's most popular athletes after winning three gold medals at the Olympics and appearing on Strictly Come Dancing two years ago. The eight-time world champion is expected to complete at next year's Olympics in Paris.

It's claimed Peaty needed stitches following the alleged scrap, which took place at Loughborough University.

"It was absolute carnage," a source told The Sun about the alleged incident. "Peaty was being cocky and made a joke at Greenbank’s expense, before touching his backside. But his actions touched a real nerve for Greenbank and it got very heated.

"Peaty was left with a bloody face and needing treatment... Those around them persuaded Peaty and Greenbank to shake hands and put the fight behind them."

Peaty is now dating Holly Ramsay, daughter of celebrity chef Gordon. He and Greenbank were team-mates at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, earning a silver medal in 4x100 metre medley race. The other two swimmers with James Guy and Duncan Scott.

Peaty won the 100 metre breaststroke title at the Rio Olympics in 2016 before defending his title in Tokyo. His also won the mixed 4x100 metre medley relay title in the Japanese capital alongside Guy Kathleen Dawson and Hopkin.

Greenbank, Hopkin and Peaty have all been part of Team GB's swimming squad for several years. All three swimmers have played a big role in helping Team GB win medals at the Commonwealth Games, the World Championships and the European Championships.

Peaty split from Eiri Munro, the mother of their two-year-old son George, last August. Peaty finished ninth overall on Strictly.
