Davina McCall has revealed that one contestant of My Mum, Your Dad left the series early after being triggered by its talk of 'intimacy'.

The Love Island inspired series will premiere on ITV1 next week after months of anticipation, much to the delight of reality dating show fans. Host Davina was the brains behind the new programme, after writing to ITV bosses to pitch the idea of a "midlife Love Island".

My Mum, Your Dad will feature older singletons in their forties and fifties and will take place in West Sussex instead of Mallorca. The premise of the series is slightly different from Love Island too, with the adult children of the contestants coming on board to play 'match maker' for their parents. Unbeknownst to the mums and dads, their offspring will also be watching their every move in the £8 million country house and will ultimately decide whether or not they should stay on the show.

Davina, 55, has now revealed that there was one contestant who unexpectedly quit the show, after she became 'terrified' during the process. "She had to leave," the former Big Brother host recalled. "She’s just terrified. You know, she’s terrified of being rejected, letting someone in, all of these things that again, I think we can all relate to at some point in our lives it’s just really scary."

Davina also admitted that she's far more interested in watching a reality show about genuine connections like My Mum, Your Dad, than those with a heavy emphasis on drama and sex. "For me, personally speaking, I’d rather watch the hint of love, a hint of something coming, a should I, shouldn’t I, a moment of tenderness, something amazing," she said. "That’s so exciting but like… shagging? It’s sort of like once you’ve seen… it doesn’t mean anything."

For Davina, My Mum, Your Dad, is the the complete opposite to the vapid flings that most dating shows seem to create. "This really f***** means something. When you see people falling (for each other) And you think ‘Oh my god’ and you know that this is serious. That’s what’s so lovely," she explained.

The stars of My Mum, Your Dad have already been announced, and by the looks of the lineup, it's about to be one fascinating journey. Viewers can expect to see contestants from a wide range of backgrounds, with Derbyshire postman Roger and Bournemouth recovery coach Natalie just two of the singletons set for romance on the exciting new show.

Speaking on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Davina elaborated further on how My Mum, Your Dad differed from Love Island. "They’ve lived a life – they’re widows, they’re people who have been through horrific divorces," she told host Steven Bartlett. "They are people who have split up with somebody and decided they want to try going out with somebody the same sex as them."

My Mum, Your Dad will premiere its first hour-long episode on ITV1 on September 11 at 9pm.
