DP World Tour star Adrian Meronk has wished the European Ryder Cup team well after he was left out by captain Luke Donald.

Donald confirmed his six picks on Monday, with Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Sepp Straka, Nicolai Hojgaard and Ludvig Aberg all earning a place. The inclusion of Fleetwood, Lowry and Rose came as no surprise, with the trio adding some key experience to the European team.

The former world No. 1 then handed a Ryder Cup debut to Straka, after the Austrian impressed on the PGA Tour throughout 2023, which included winning the John Deere Classic and a tied-second finish at The Open.

The second rookie pick came the way of Hojgaard, having announced himself as one of Europe's hottest prospects in recent years. The third and final debutant included was Aberg, who despite only becoming a professional in June has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past three months.

In his first eight starts as a pro, Aberg secured five top-25 finishes across the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. It was start nine that proved pivotal though, as the Swedish starlet secured his first ever victory as a proffesional after prevailing at the Omega European Masters on Sunday.

The win could not have come at a better time for Aberg, who was then handed his Ryder Cup spot less than 24 hours later. This came at the expense of Meronk though, who was a surprise omission from the European setup. Throughout qualifying, the big-hitting Pole has staked his claim having secured two victories.

His most important came at the Italian Open in May, as Meronk prevailed on the course in which the Europeans will do battle with their U.S. rivals in Marco Simone. This was not enough for Donald though, who opted to leave out Meronk in place of three other rookies.

On the back of his snub, the Italian Open champion has broken his silence by taking to social media. In simple, but classy post he wrote on Instagram: "Good luck @teameurope." Meronk had only just missed out on automatic qualification into Donald's team after finishing just 170 points behind Robert MacIntyre in the European points list.

In the season-long DP World Tour rankings, Meronk is only bettered by Masters champion Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy as he sits third in the list. Despite the disappointment, the Pole will return to the course this week to defend his Irish Open title at the K Club.
