EastEnder's Lily's life off screen from real age to friendship with Lacey Turner
EastEnders fans will be well aware that Lily Slater has been a focal character this year - with her underage pregnancy causing plenty of drama in Albert Square.
But fans might be less acquainted with the actress behind the role - as teenager Lillia Turner has played the part for the past three years. Lilly is the child of EastEnders characters Stacey Slater, played by Lacey Turner, and Ryan Malloy, who is played by Neil McDermott.
Lily also calls Martin Fowler, played by James Bye, as he adopted her when he married Stacey. This week, Lily’s underage pregnancy storyline develops into an underage parenting storyline as she is set to give birth. Lily Slater is currently played by 14-year-old actress Lillia Turner. Lillia took on the role in 2020 - while Alfie Duncan, Poppy Crake and Kennady Lacy-Breckenridge all played the character as a baby in 2010 when she first appeared on screen. Aine Garvey was the next child star to take on the role, playing Lily from 2014 until 2019. The underage pregnancy storyline has been a focal point for EastEnders in 2023 with Stacey and Martin clashing over how the baby will be raised, and Ricky Mitchell struggling to come to terms with his impending role as a father.

As Lillia was born on 16 March 2009, she is currently 14-years-old and thus two years older than her on-screen character. Lily Slater is intended to be 12-years-old. With her character falling pregnant at such a young age, the storyline has confronted a difficult topic for the soap. However, Lillia’s impressive acting in the role has already bagged her a British Soap Award in 2023 - and she was nominated for an Inside Soap Award this year too.

While Lillia plays the on-screen daughter of Lacey Turner’s Stacey Slater, the pair are not believed to be related despite having the same real-life last name. Lacey is, however, a huge fan of Lillia and her acting. She gushed to DigitalSpy earlier this year: "Lillia is such a great little actress – there’s something about her that is so warm and so natural, and her instincts are just bang-on. She’s been so desperate for a storyline of her own for so many years, so to see her have one is lovely. To watch her absolutely nail it has just been brilliant. I’ve tried to stay out of it as much as I can because Lilia actually doesn’t need any help, tips or guidance because she’s just great. She’s got something that is so natural that I don’t want to take that away from her."
