Selena Gomez sends message to Lionel Messi after he leaves her gobsmacked
Lionel Messi has a habit of leaving spectators gobsmacked but it was a moment of brilliance from an LAFC star that left Selena Gomez wowed.
The A-List megastar was in the stands as the World Cup winner came to town with Inter Miami in a crucial fixture in their playoffs push. The actor and singer will have been left disappointed if she arrived at BMO Stadium hoping to see the legendary winger find the net.
That said, she did see one sublime moment from one of the opposition players, which left her visibly stunned as she watched on from the terraces. The Wizards of Waverly Place leading light's jaw simply dropped after Messi was denied a goal in his team's hard-fought victory.
Despite scoring 11 goals already for his new employers, the 37-year-old drew a blank for the second time running in MLS. LAFC have goalkeeper John McCarthy to thank for keeping Messi at bay after his brilliant save to deny the prolific marksman from adding to his tally.
In a post on Twitter /X, the singer looked simply stunned by what she had witnessed. It is clear that Vice City's talisman made a big impression on the hitmaker despite this miss and when asked to send a message to the forward, she told one bystander: "I love you [Lionel] Messi."
Oprah Winfrey snubs Harry and Meghan as expert claims 'the tide has turned'It was a star-studded night at the Californian ground, with Gomez having also been joined pitchside by the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Owen Wilson. They were also in the presence of bona fide royalty as Prince Harry made the trip to see the two teams in action.
The Floridan franchise had already taken the lead through Facundo Farias and supporters will have feared the worst when the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner went clean through on goal. Ultimately, LAFC's stopper won the battle of minds in this instance, though, to pull off a one-handed parry.
Like all great players, the Argentine legend ensured he still made a significant impact on proceedings, even if he was denied by McCarthy.
In fact, he supplied two assists in the victory, including one memorable link up with fellow former Barcelona icon Jordi Alba to help him notch.
The ex-Spain captain is not used to getting on the scoresheet and this was his maiden strike for the Herons in his sixth game for the club. Alongside Messi and Sergio Busquets, he has helped to transform the club's fortunes since joining earlier this summer.
Not only do the winning trio already have a trophy under their belt in the form of the Leagues Cup, with another final to come in the US Open Cup.
The Herons do face a battle to face the MLS playoffs, however, and they sit eight points off the final slot with nine games to play.
