Miley Cyrus shares 'undeniable' chemistry with Liam Hemsworth in The Last Song
Before she wrote a scathing single life anthem that jabbed at him, Miley Cyrus was instantly enamoured with Liam Hemsworth when they met in the auditions for The Last Song.
The 2010 film, based on a 2009 novel by Nicholas Sparks, was the setting where the couple first fell in love. Miley said in a recent TikTok: "I think one of the elements that made that movie feel so special was it was watching two very young people fall in love with each other, which was happening in real time and real life." She added: "So the chemistry was undeniable, and that was the beginning of a long, 10-year relationship."
The two embarked on an on-again, off-again relationship after wrapping up filming the romantic drama. Liam proposed to the Wrecking Ball singer in 2012, and the couple eventually married in December 2018 in Nashville, Tennessee. Liam filed for divorce in August of the next year and the divorce was finalised in January 2020.

"In 2008, I had to do another feature film for Disney," Miley said, "And I didn't want it to be a part of Hannah Montana. Once we had written the screenplay, it was time to audition all the guys who would play Will, my boyfriend in the movie." She explained that "we had gotten it down from thousands to the final three and Liam was a part of those three."

One of the reasons Miley claimed she and Liam got married, was because their home in Malibu burned down during the Woolsey Fire in November 2018. She said: "the timing felt right" and that "no one is promised the next day, or the next, so I try to be 'in the now' as much as possible".

"So I was working with a producer in Malibu that lived in a house in Ramirez Canyon, which I would've never known 15 years later I would be living in that house, which would eventually burn down," she said, "That house had so much magic to it. It ended up really changing my life."
After their divorce, Miley released her song Flowers in January 2023, which paraphrased Bruno Mars' song When I Was Your Man in the chorus, which was supposedly a song Liam dedicated to Miley a lot. The song was an obvious jab at a past relationship, and many believed it to be about her Hunger Games star ex-husband.
