Jimmy Buffett's cause of death has seemingly been confirmed after the singer died aged 76.

The Margaritaville singer was reportedly diagnosed with skin cancer four years ago. It's said the condition turned into lymphoma, with sources close to the singer saying this was what caused the tragic news.

A friend told TMZ: "He lived his life in the sun, literally and figuratively."

Jimmy's family confirmed the news on Saturday, confirming the Cheesburger in Paradise singer passed away on Friday. A statement on his social media read: "Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1 surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many."

The statement also included a photo of the award-winning singer on a boat while the words continued: He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many."

Following the news of his death, fans, friends and fellow musicians alike from across the globe paid tribute to the star. Included was Elton John, who labelled it the "saddest of news".

The music icon said on his Instagram Stories: "Jimmy Buffett was a unique and treasured entertainer. His fans adored him and he never let them down." Sir Elton continued on the platform earlier: "This is the saddest of news, a lovely man gone way too soon."

Elton concluded by sharing his condolences to Jimmy's wife Jane and their family, which includes the couple's three children Savannah, Sarah and Cameron. Sir Elton added: "Condolences to Jane and the family from David and me."

Miami Heat, the basketball team the singer supported also shared a post expressing their sorrow. The team wrote on Twitter: "We are saddened to learn of the passing of long-time Season Ticket Member and friend, Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy knew well the power that music and sports has of bringing people together. #HEATNation joins all Parrot Heads in honoring Jimmy’s incredible spirit and love of life."

Jimmy enjoyed a decades-long career in the music industry, with him known for songs like Margaritaville. He's worked on other ventures over the years too and according to Forbes had a net worth of around $1 billion (around £795,000,000).
