Corrie's Sally Carman supported by co-stars as she lands new job away from soap

Soap actress Sally Carman has been supported by her Coronation Street colleagues after announcing she's got an exciting new job outside the ITV soap.

The actress, who has played Abi Franklin in Coronation Street since 2017, will now show her skills off camera as she takes up position of director for an exciting new project. The star direct a stage production which will appear in JB Shorts Festival at Manchester’s 53 Two venue in October.

Sally shared her good news on Instagram with a poster from the production as she said: "Very happy to be directing @lindsaywilliams8900 piece for the mighty @jbshortsplays this October at @53two. It runs from the 3rd to the 14th - be good to see you." Despite working away from her Corrie cast mates in her new role, they've turned out in support for the star and promised to come down and support her later this year.

Her fellow soap cast mates congratulated Sally on her exciting news, including Toyah Habeeb actress Georgia Taylor who wrote: "Love this! I’ll definitely be there." Sally's husband Joe Duttine, who also stars in Coronation Street and plays Tim Metcalfe, commented a series of clapping emojis. Fellow stars Melanie Hill and Charlie De Melo liked the post.

Actor Anthony Crank, who plays Dean Turnbull in the soap, wrote: "I’ll defo come support youse xxx". Rachel Leskovac, who played Natasha Blakeman, added: "Already booked", with Sally replying with clapping emojis as she wrote: "amazing!!" Fans have also congratulated the star, with one writing: "Fantastic! Congratulations! Will try to make it if I can. Need to go to the theatre more." Another shared: "Amazing. I’ll definitely come along to see it!" A third commented: "No end to your talents! Go, you! Congratulations, lovely!" Another wrote: "Fantastic, would love to come and see."

Sally joined Coronation Street as Abi Franklin in 2017 and has been part of major storylines in the ITV soap. Before joining the ITV soap, Sally had appeared in Shameless, Doctors, Heartbeat and Casualty.

Sally met her husband Joe Duttine after starting on the soap and later confirming their romance in 2018. The pair tied the knot last year before honeymooning in Lake Garda. The wedding was postponed multiple times due to the coronavirus pandemic. The couple regularly feature on each other's social media, including on date nights around Manchester
