'Angry' Diana rages at stepmother and declares 'I hate you' in unheard tapes
Previously unheard tapes of Princess Diana have revealed the fractured relationship she shared with her stepmother, Raine Spencer.
Extracts from never-before-heard tapes from Diana speaking in the 1990s saw the late Princess of Wales reveal her thoughts about the woman who she had previously reportedly labelled "Acid Raine". The clips, obtained by ABC show inside the mind of the Princess. The tapes, which are to be revealed in a new documentary next year also heard Diana saying how Charles wouldn't speak to Raine either.
Explaining her strained relationship, Diana said on the tapes: "I was so angry. I said I hate you so much. If you only knew how much we all hated you for what you've done. You ruined the house.
"You spent daddy's money. I have said everything I possibly could. Raine said you have no idea how much pain your mother put your father through. I said pain Raine? It’s one word you don’t even know how to relate to. In my job I see people suffer like you never see. You call that pain? I said you've got a lot to learn. I remember really going for her gullet."
Raine married Princess Diana's dad, John, in 1976 after her birth mother Frances Shand Kydd left the family. Diana's stark admission came as she also seemingly revealed Charles wanted a girl when they had second son Harry. The revelation came as she discussed her youngest child's christening day.
Kate's strict 'household rule' that George, Charlotte and Louis can't breakIn one recording, Princess Diana spoke frankly about the celebration, saying: "At Harry's christening Charles went up to mummy and said ‘We’re so disappointed, we wanted a girl’ and mummy snapped his head off and said you should realise you are lucky to have a child that's normal." Diana continued: "Ever since that day, the shutters have come down. That's what he does when he gets somebody answering back at him.”
Prince Harry was christened on December 21, 1984 at Windsor Castle. In images from the religious ceremony, the young prince was seen parading around the room with his relatives amused by his antics. Harry has been very vocal about his own fractured relationship with his dad in recent months.
Just this month, it was reported King Charles and Prince Harry's reconciliation is a "long way off" with claims saying the Royal Family still holds resentment towards Harry's decision to leave the Firm and expose the family in his controversial tell-all docu-series as well as his memoir 'Spare.'
