The Chase star leaves guests amazed as they offer ITV's biggest-ever cash prize
A Chaser broke ITV records by offering the highest prize yet to a contestant on the quiz show.
The Chase viewers and contestants were left stunned after Paul Sinha, 53, made an eyewatering offer. Bradley Walsh welcomed four new players hoping to take on tough general knowledge questions in the hopes of securing a hefty prize. However, they were not expecting the prize money to be so big.
Myles, 26, was the final player to face the Sinnerman after one of his fellow contestants had already been eliminated. Two of his co-stars were already safe and supported Myles as he tried to bag more money for the prize pot. Paul had previously "taunted" Myles after he confessed he didn't think he'd be tempted to take the high offer.
The contestant headed to the table with £6,000 and it was up to Paul to put his low and high offers down. He said: "Well it is not very generous this, minus £2,000." Bradley asked for his high offer, to which the professional quizzer replied: "I taunted you a little bit earlier that you wouldn't go high. What about if you got the highest offer we have ever offered on a daytime show of £109,000?"
Myles was left gobsmacked as fellow contestant Anna gasped. He had a discussion with his team ahead of deciding which offer to pick. Myles was urged to stick with the £6,000 but he had other ideas. Bradley could see he was going to not take his teammate's advice and added: "Complete no-brainer." Myles replied: "I didn't think I'd go for the higher offer. But it's a six-figure sum. It's got to be the 109."
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundaries"You have got to!" exclaimed Bradley as he told Myles he had nothing to lose and shook his hand. Ahead of the round, Paul said: "I have no idea what's about to happen next but by taking that offer you've made history, whatever happens." Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be for Myles as he was caught by the Chaser when he was three from home.
Host Bradley praised Myles after his defeat, where he said: "I think just going for it shows a lot about you. You absolutely 100 per cent chose the right amount. Despite not getting through, you have to go for it!" Myles' fellow contestants Anna and John scored a total of 16 in the final round, but Paul managed to catch them with 26 seconds remaining.
Paul joined The Chase in 2011 but despite his success on the show he recently insisted he is easy to beat in pub quizzes. He said: “I can’t answer any of the picture rounds. I can’t recognise female celebrities, but if it’s a bloke I fancy I can recognise him straight away.” The quiz ace also does stand-up comedy, but after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019, he does not know how long his comedy career can go on for.
