Sky TV show Brassic has managed to sign up nineties music legend Mani from the Stone Roses – but he now looks completely unrecognisable.

The Manchester born musician, 60, who started his career in 1987, has shed his trademark shaggy hair style and opted for a more conservative look as he made his cameo appearance on the hit show. But, in a bid to ease him into acting, Mani is playing himself. And it seems, according to reports, the Stone Roses star simply stumbled upon the opportunity. The plot line sees Tommo and Vinnie turn up at Mani's house in an attempt to surprise their friend. But it looks as though it was a case of art imitating life, as that is what happened in real life for the guitarist.

Speaking to The Sun, Vinnie actor Joe Gilgun said: "So Danny Brocklehurst, who writes Brassic, takes his kids to footy and Mani takes his kids to the same place and they hang out a bit. He watches the show so Danny was like, ‘do you want to be in it?’ So the next thing you know, he's in it and it's f*cking brilliant! I love this about Brassic, that random people you might not expect want to be in it.”

Brassic has quite a large following which has not only attracted Mani into its cast, as comedian Lee Mack is also set to star in the programme which airs on September 28. And it's popularity is clearly gathering momentum as it's also nominated for Best Comedy at this year's National Television Awards.

The show first aired in 2019, but this year marks a special moment for those involved as it is the first time they will be on the Christmas TV schedule. But those close to the writers and stars have claimed that it is set to be far from a traditional Christmas show – as it will be more like "Bad Santa" which starred Billy Bob Thornton as a foul-mouthed rogue.

While Mani will surprise viewers with his appearance, back in 2012 he was on the one the receiving end of a surprise. After revelling in his heyday as a rock star, earning millions from record sales and tours, Mani reportedly thought those days were over. But the guitarist was left speechless when he went to withdraw money from his bank only to find that he had £1.8million in his account, which was not there the day before.

It turns out he had received an advance on his fee ahead of the group's tour the summer of 2012. And according to reports, he wasted no time in calling his friends in Stockport to tell them the great news. Mani had only popped out to buy a few groceries and was faced with having nearly £2million in his bank account.
