Jill Dando's brother hopes Netflix series will find killer after years of pain
The heartbroken brother of murdered BBC journalist Jill Dando hopes that his sister's killer will finally be found following a Netflix series surrounding her tragic death.
The former Crimewatch presenter, who was only 37 years old at the time of her death in 1999, was killed on the doorstep of her south-west London home after being shot in the head and her case remains unsolved. But now, 24 years later Netflix announced that they are producing a true crime documentary called Who Killed Jill Dando? which is set to air in September.
Speaking about the upcoming documentary on Loose Women, the programme was being discussed with TV panellist Jane Moore, who also features in the programme.

Jill was murdered outside her home in Fulham, London (PA)Jill's brother, Nigel is hopeful that the publicity surrounding her case will inject fresh insight into who killed his sister. Jane told the daytime TV show audience: "‘Here we are 24 years on and still nobody has the answer to the question [of who did this]. I reported on it on the time."
She added: "Her brother Nigel, who is also a journalist, feels that this could help bring somebody forward that might know something. It’s happened with other documentaries where it just triggers a memory, or people’s circumstances change or suddenly decide they will come forward with a piece of information and that is what he is hoping that this documentary will bring."

At the time, a local man named Barry George was convicted of the crime and wrongly imprisoned for eight years for a crime he still claims he did not commit. He was acquitted following an appeal and a retrial but tragically no other suspect has been charged.
The multi-part series is set to combine archive footage with new research and interviews that will give an insight into her life, career and legacy. When the Netflix series was announced Nigel said he hoped it would "bring forward someone with new information who can bring Jill’s killer to justice’.
He told The Times in an interview: "I know [it was] a long time ago but someone might know something. My personal feeling is it was somebody looking for a kick and for notoriety." And he added that he firmly believes his sister was " in the wrong place at the wrong time."
The official synopsis of the documentary series says: "British broadcasting legend, Jill Dando, was killed by a single bullet on her doorstep in 1999 in broad daylight. Despite one of the biggest homicide investigations in British history, the murder remains unsolved." It adds: "This three-part series takes viewers through the twists and the turns of a true crime mystery as her family, friends, journalists, investigators and lawyers wrestle with the question: Who Killed Jill Dando?" Jill may have been best known for co-presenting Crimewatch but she also appeared on Breakfast Time and the Six O'Clock News.
