Ryan Thomas shared with fans that he's on the brink of tears as he anticipates a significant move with his family as after spending several years residing in Essex, Ryan is gearing up to return to his roots in Manchester.

The soap star, who won hearts as Jason Grimshaw on the popular ITV soap for an impressive 16-year stint from 2000 to 2016, has been living down south following his engagement to Lucy Mecklenburgh. The actor found love with the former TOWIE star in 2017 while participating in Bear Grylls Celebrity Island.

Their whirlwind romance led to a picturesque proposal during a breathtaking trip to Italy in 2019. The couple then welcomed their first bundle of joy, Roman, in March 2020. A year later, they surprised fans by revealing that Ryan had secretly purchased a property in Manchester, which they planned to renovate extensively before moving in.

In the interim, the couple expanded their family with the arrival of their second child, Lilah Rae, who recently celebrated her first birthday. Now, over two years since Ryan was lauded as 'brave' for single-handedly choosing their future family home, the countdown to their moving date is ticking away.

In a series of candid Instagram stories, Ryan gave his followers an intimate glimpse into his life this week. From the window of a moving train, he shared his anticipation for the final stages of his new home in Manchester, captioning the video: "Back to Manchester. The final push on our new home."

After a brief hiatus, the former soap star returned with another update from his car. The 39-year-old was waiting at the train station for Lucy's arrival and shared his impressions of the ongoing construction work at his house.

"So I'm just at the train station waiting for the wife to arrive. I got here late last night, had to be on site early. I'm very impressed. The most men I've ever seen on a job in my life, especially in my house. There's about 20 of them working around the clock trying to get this finished by Friday," he said.

Despite the hard work, Ryan expressed doubts about meeting the deadline: "Will it be done on Friday? I don't think so. It still looks very unfinished to me but I've seen 60 Minute Makeover and anything's possible. Just got to hope."

"But anyone who's done a house renovation knows the stress and struggle of doing it and the process to get there. But it will be worth it when I'm sat around that table with all my family together. Actually, I think I'll cry. It'll be a special moment and that's when it'll be worth it."

As he continued to wait for Lucy's arrival, Ryan made a humorous request to his fellow Mancunians: "Can you all do me a little favour, if you see an Essex girl walking around confused, and lost, be kind, make her feet at home. I mean, I think she knows what she's got herself into with my family but times that by a hundred when she meets all you guys."

He quipped: "I hope she's alright here. I can't wait to see her in Manchester. She doesn't even know her way around Essex never mind here. Good luck." Accompanying the video, he typed a cheeky message: "Good luck @luckymeck1. Be nice to her Manchester," followed by a crying laughing emoji.

This comes on the heels of Ryan being asked about his proximity to his brothers, twins Adam and Scott Thomas, when the family-of-four relocates. To this, Ryan candidly confessed: "One of my main reasons to come home," which he captioned with a red heart and praying emoji, alongside a recent photo of the trio at the Soho House Festival.

When probed again about his decision to return to his hometown, Ryan shared a heartwarming picture of his extended family, featuring former Emmerdale star Adam's wife Caroline and their children Teddy and Elsie, as well as Ryan's teenage daughter Scarlett, whom he shares with his Corrie co-star ex Tina O'Brien.

He captioned the photo with: "@scott.thomas @gail.rebecca," referring to his younger brother and mother who were absent from the picture. In response to another follower's query: "Will you be moving into the new house to love?" Ryan posted a thumbs-up selfie and humorously warned: "The whole family will have a northern accent very soon. Even @luckymeck1."
