Corrie's Jennie McAlpine 'physically can't rule out' more kids after third baby

Coronation Street favourite Jennie McAlpine has opened up about the arduous birth of her third child almost six months on and revealed how she's adapting to life as a mum-of-three.

The Fiz Brown actress, 39, and husband Chris Farr welcomed daughter Doris into the world earlier this year but kept their happy news private until now. Baby Doris joins the couple's two older children Albert, eight, and Hilda, four, who helped pick their new little sister's name.

Speaking in a new interview, Jennie explains how she loves giving birth so much - describing it as "the most special thing in the world - it actually makes her "want to become a midwife". However, Corrie fans needn't worry about Jennie walking away from the cobbled streets of Weatherfield as the new mum-of-three is looking forward to returning to the ITV soap next year.

Jennie, who has been watching classic Corrie episodes during night feeds with Doris, was a teenager when she made her soap debut at Fizz back in 2001. "I was 17 when I started on Corrie and when I go back after maternity leave, I’ll be 40. I’ve been in it longer than I haven’t. But I never take it for granted," she admits.

The actress has popped into the Corrie studios since giving birth to Doris - introducing the newest member of her family to her on-screen family and meeting Claire Sweeney, who has taken on the role of Fizz's mother-in-law while Jennie has been away on maternity leave.

"She had lots of cuddles in the green room with Maureen [Lipman who plays Evelyn Plummer] and Alan [Halsall who plays Jennie’s on-screen husband Tyrone] and we met my new mother-in-law, who is played by Claire Sweeney. And then we went to the canteen where Alan held Doris while I ate my lunch, which was bliss," Jennie recalls when chatting with OK! magazine.

While Jennie loves giving birth and having babies, it doesn't mean labour with Doris was plain sailing. "Without going into all the gory details, we were there for a while. There were a few shift changes of midwives in that time, put it that way," the soap star confesses to the publication.

As she announced she was pregnant for a third time at the start of this year, the soap star admitted she and Chris might not stop at three children when it comes to family planning. Jennie said: "That programme, 22 Kids And Counting – I totally get it! I love being pregnant, I love babies and I love being a mum to the kids and each stage. It feels right and being a mum is my favourite job in the world."

However, since giving birth to Doris six months ago, Jennie has changed her mind about the prospect of more babies. "I don’t think I could ever say never, not out loud anyway. But I’m getting too old and from a practical point of view I’m not sure how we’d manage. We’ve got friends with six children and they drive an actual van," she admits during her new interview.

"And we’re running out of space in the house. Hilda and Doris will eventually share a bedroom but if we had any more, I think me and Chris would have to sleep in the car! But physically saying no more? I can’t do it. I love having babies too much."

Jennie and husband Chris Farr previously explained how they didn't want to know the gender of their third child ahead of welcoming them into the world. Speaking on Loose Women in January, Jennie revealed she didn't know what she was expecting but shared how she was due to give birth over Easter - saying: "They will be my little Easter chick".

The soap star was six months pregnant when she publicly revealed she was with child - admitting getting excited about her family getting present was the best Christmas present ever. The soap star explained how she discovered her baby news while enjoying a camping trip with Chris and their two youngest children.

After feeling nauseous during the trip, Jennie took a pregnancy test and found out her brood was about to get a little bit bigger as learned she was five weeks pregnant. "I can probably guarantee that whatever the name we choose, it will have been a character in Corrie – I don't know how to avoid it," the star explained when discussing her then-unborn baby.

Jennie's daughter's name Hilda was inspired by Coronation Street legend Hilda Ogden, who was played by the late Jean Alexander.
