Coronation Street star Jennie McAlpine has finally shared her baby name after she welcomed her third child six months ago – but kept the news private until now.

The actress is now ready to share her baby with the world, and the name has a "very Corrie" connection. The 38-year-old, who plays fan favourite Fiz Stape on the soap, welcomed her baby with husband Chris Farr just days before Easter. Jennie settled on the name Doris for her little bundle of joy, after already being parents to Albert, eight, and four-year-old Hilda.

The couple decided they didn't want to know Doris' gender until she was born and so drew up a shortlist of both boys' and girls' names. Their son Albert took the task very seriously, as Jennie confessed it was a "big conversation" in their house. She said: "There were a lot of boys’ names discarded, mainly because of football. Albert is a Manchester United fan and I think he left us with about two boys’ names to choose from."

She told OK!: "Doris is a family name and I love that it goes with Albert and Hilda. They’re also all very ‘Corrie’. The actress who played the first Rovers landlady, Annie Walker, was called Doris Speed so there’s obviously something in my DNA that means these baby names keep happening!"

Her daughter’s name Hilda was inspired by Corrie character Hilda Ogden, who was played by the late Jean Alexander. Jennie said before Doris' arrival that she wouldn’t rule out using the ITV soap as inspiration again, telling the OK! magazine: "I can probably guarantee that whatever the name we choose, it will have been a character in Corrie – I don’t know how to avoid it! It just feels really nice. We’re so over the moon. The thought of adding to our family mix and chaos was the best Christmas present! I’m really excited for 2023 – it’ll be a special one."

Jennie also kept her pregnancy a secret for months as she only announced her happy news when she was six months pregnant. Following her previous pregnancies, she felt there were a number of similar symptoms so decided to take a pregnancy test and found she was about five weeks along the journey. The soap star and hubby Chris Farr were on a camping trip with their kids when she felt nauseous.

The former I’m A Celebrity campmate explained her soap bosses hid her bump with objects during her scenes. Speaking on Loose Women, Jennie explained how her scenes on the soap see her with a washing basket in her hands to cover the bump. Jennie added: "Last time, I’m not joking, with baby number two we hid the bump behind a Ford Fiesta. The director said, ‘I think it would be nice if we had that car a little further into the shot’. Even the writers have put in a lot more ‘Fiz brings the washing in’ – there's a lot more of that at the start of the script. I feel like she does a lot of washing anyway, but she’s going to be doing a lot more."
