Sporting star J.J. Watt has paid tribute to charismatic TV host and actor Bob Barker after he passed away at 99 years old.

Barker died at his home near Los Angeles due to natural causes following a career in radio and TV that spanned over six decades.

The presenter was best known for hosting the U.S. TV game show, "The Price is Right" for 35 years. It is the longest-running game show on U.S. television.

Barker was also well known for his various acting roles and cameo appearances, including a memorable performance in the iconic Adam Sandler film "Happy Gilmore" in which he played himself.

Barker featured in an iconic scene alongside Sandler's character, Happy Gilmore, in which the pair broke out into a fight on the golf course. The fight scene saw Barker come out on top in one of the movie's most memorable moments.

According to IMDB, Barker was reluctant to accept the role until he learned that he would win the fight against Sandler. It was also reported that Barker was offered a stunt double but refused, saying: "Wait a minute, I know how to fight."

Former NFL star JJ Watt posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, following the news writing: "Rest in Peace Bob Barker, you legend. Thank you for being a consistent figure every single day and most importantly on days we stayed home from school “sick”. 99 years. Hell of a run."

Movie star Adam Sandler has also reacted, saying: "The man. The myth. The best. Such a sweet funny guy to hang out with. Loved talking to him. Loved laughing with him.

"Loved him kicking the crap out of me. He will be missed by everyone I know! Heartbreaking day. Love to Bob always and his family! Thanks for all you gave us!"

Actor Christopher McDonald, who tweets under his "Happy Gilmore" character's name Shooter McGavin, tweeted: "Bob Barker was a staple of so many childhoods.

"A game show host icon. He gave us one of the greatest fight scenes in movie history. He was a legend and will remain one forever. Thanks for all the memories Bob. Rest easy."

The WWE also posted a tribute, saying: "WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of Bob Barker. The legendary game show host had a memorable turn as the guest host of #WWERaw in 2009. WWE sends its condolences to Barker’s family, friends and fans."

Sandler and Barker would again reunite years later for a sketch on Night of Too Many Stars where they replayed the scene in a hospital.
