A 15-year-old boy has been seriously injured after falling from a cliff at a popular UK tourist hotspot.

The youngster, named as Lewie, suffered internal bleeding and multiple broken bones after falling at Compass Point in Bude, Cornwall, on Monday. He was flown to Derriford Hospital for emergency treatment by air ambulance before being stable enough to be transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Now a fundraiser has been set up to help his family cover the cost of travel and accommodation, and support Lewie on what has been described as a “long road to recovery.” More than £5,000 has now been raised so far, surpassing the original £2,000 target.

The fundraiser by Jodie Westlake, which raised £3,500 in its first day, is titled ‘Please help Lewie’s family in a time of need”.

Jodie said: “On Monday the 21st of August, tragically Lewie, who is 15, fell from the cliff tops up by Compass Point in Bude. After a valiant rescue from our amazing emergency services and air ambulance team, Lewie was rescued and taken to Derriford Hospital in critical condition. Lewie sustained many injuries, internal bleeding and many broken bones, including his neck, back, hips.

“After lifesaving surgery to stop the internal bleeding, which resulted in Lewie losing half of his kidney, Lewis’s condition became stable and he was transported to Bristol’s Children’s Hospital for further treatment. Please, if you are in a position to, help this local family with travel and accommodation cost to ensure Lewie has the support he needs whilst he is recovering from this tragic accident. Any help will be appreciated, even if it’s just a message of support. Please help support his family through this challenging time.

“Lewie has a long road to recovery and is going to miss out on a lot of his carefree teenage life, including an upcoming family holiday that he was so excited for. I’m hoping we can all rally, not only to help his family with the financial burden of travel and accommodation but to also give Lewie the opportunity to still be able to have the holiday he was so looking forward to and to make some new happy memories after this tragic event. He really is our miraculous Lewie!”

She posted to her facebook: “I am so overwhelmed and grateful for all the support and generosity from everyone. Thank you all for making this very hard time for Lewie and his family a little less of a struggle. Lewie’s road to recovery is going to be a long one, so all and any donations are so very appreciated. Your support means the world to his family. Thank you again.”
